About Hanzim

Hanzim was originally created and released in 1996 by a Chinese language student, who conceived of the program while attending classes in Beijing. Frustrated by the magnitude of the memorization task as well as the cumbersome chore of looking up characters in a dictionary, he knew computers could make learning hanzi easier.

This initial effort grew over many years spurred on by advice and bug reports from users around the world. More important than anything else were the messages of gratitude, letting us know that the program was actually helping people learn Chinese. This feedback has always been what has made continued efforts worthwhile.
